Diamond Aircraft’s DA42 Twin Star obtains first approval according to EASA

Diamond Aircraft Industries announces the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) type approval for the DA42 Twin Star. The approval was issued at the Berlin Air Show ILA on May 13th, 2004, exactly 2 years and 6 months after the project initiated. Due to the committed cooperation between Diamond Aircraft and the Austrian aeronautical authority (Austro Control) it was possible to develop a completely new product in record time.

Carbon fibre technology, Turbo-Diesel technology and a glass cockpit are only three of the innovations, which have been utilized in this new aircraft concept. The market responded with 123 new orders in April 2004 and with a total of 317 orders to date.

The DA42 Twin Star is a four-seat aircraft built of carbon- and glass fibre reinforced plastics, powered by two Turbo-Diesel engines (Thielert Centurion 1.7) that can be operated with Jet A1 and Diesel. The standard tank capacity of 52 US gal combined with the sensationally low fuel consumption results in a range between 780 NM and 1.700 NM, depending on the power setting. With the optional extended tank of 74 US gal, the range extends correspondingly. The DA42 Twin Star is equipped with a latest generation glass cockpit, the Garmin G1000.

Diamond Aircraft Industries is one of the leading composite aircraft manufacturer. There are two production facilities: one located in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, where head office, research and development operations are conducted, and one in London, Ontario, Canada. At both facilities innovative aircraft solutions of the highest level and quality are produced for flight schools and private operators.
